About this workshop
Ever wondered what your sketches would look like stitched in thread? In this hands-on workshop at The Making Rooms, you’ll learn how to turn your own drawings into machine embroidery designs using Ink/Stitch, a free, open-source embroidery extension for Inkscape.
We’ll start by preparing your drawing for digitising, whether it’s a doodle, a line drawing or a simple illustration. You’ll learn how to trace and clean up your artwork, then use Ink/Stitch to turn shapes and lines into fills, satin stitches and running stitches.
Once your design is ready, we’ll send it to our embroidery machine so you can watch your drawing come to life in thread. You’ll leave with your own embroidered piece and the know-how to keep designing at home, since all the software we use is free.
No experience needed. Just bring a drawing or two (simple, bold line work works best), or create something on the day.
